For decades, if not centuries, suspenders served as a convenient way to keep your pants up. They tended to be more popular with robust gentleman who didn’t like the way a belt pinched their waistline. In those days, suspenders were utilitarian clothing accessories without a lot of flash and flare.
Around the turn of the 20th Century someone realized that you could infuse them with a little bit of fashion. By the “Roaring” 1920s you could find a lot of men in the local speakeasy wearing colorful suspenders just like these. They are perfect for showing up and showing out at a 1920s themed costume party, while still being a fully functional way to hold up your pants.
