Performing magicians and true workers are always looking for new ways to beef up their act and keep their routine fresh. Especially if you are going to be performing for returning or repeat crowds. If you are looking for something new to add to your act and you love a good puncture effect then this Sword Thru The Neck effect needs to find a way into your performance budget. It is a truly angle-proof effect that will have the crowd laughing one moment and at the edge of their seats with suspense the next.
This is one of those puncture effects that you can tease for a long setup or deploy seemingly by surprise. You start by asking for a volunteer from the audience. Once selected you show them a curious-looking device and explain that "anything that goes into this device cannot be harmed in any way". You then attempt to prove this statement by placing a piece of crumpled newspaper inside the device and shove the prop sword through the device and then pull it back out. Unfortunately, the piece of paper with holes all over it, which should solicit a good laugh from the audience.
At this point, you theorize out loud that maybe it only works on living things. You then place the device over your volunteer’s neck. With your own unique dramatic flair, the sword is inserted, and the participant is unharmed.
