The strange thing about human biology is that the intestines and many of our other vital organs reside in our relatively exposed abdominal region. In fact, it only takes a shockingly small amount of effort to rupture the abdomen to expel the intestinal tract. Which is probably why you see it represented so often in horror movies and gory haunted house scenes.

One of the problems you run into with a lot of prop intestines is that the original designer puts too much of their own creative work, leaving you with little wiggle room to fit it into your own gory scene or special effects vision.
