When most people hear the term “Blue Crap” their mind instantly goes to Chesapeake Bay, and the Maryland Blue crabs that are turned into delicious crab cakes. But did you know that this isn’t the only place you can find Blue Crabs in North America? In fact, they are also found in the questionable waters of the Hudson River, just down stream from a barely functional nuclear power plant. Year after year local scientists harvest these crabs, and experiment on them as a bellwether species telling them about the possible nuclear toxicity of the waters that flow down toward the metropolis of New York City.
With one look at it, you get the sense that this Blue Crab specimen jar prop’s designer must have been intimately familiar with the species. It looks like someone pulled it straight out of Chesapeake Bay or the Hudson river to preserve it for some future science experiment.
