They are instructed to stand guard regardless of the elements without flinching, fraternizing or engaging in any distractions. It is a scene so iconic and historical that it is even represented by prop hats like this one.

No Animals Were Harmed While Producing These Hats

One of the great things about this costume prop hat is that it isn’t made from bear skin at all.
