There are five different types of Foot Guards protecting the Queen of England at her various castles and palaces: the Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards. Regardless of their regiment each of these soldiers wear imposing bearskin hats. They are instructed to stand guard regardless of the elements without flinching, fraternizing or engaging in any distractions. It is a scene so iconic and historical that it is even represented by prop hats like this one.

No Animals Were Harmed While Producing These Hats

One of the great things about this costume prop hat is that it isn’t made from bear skin at all. Instead, modern fabric science has found a way to replicate the look of natural bear skin and undercoat fur via synthetic materials. Not only does this ease the conscience, but it also gives the hats superior staying power, which makes them a great long-term value in a theater group's costume department.
