The original Legend of the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow was written by Washington Irving in the 19th Century. It tells of a Headless Horseman was said to rise every night searching for his head, and if he could not find it, then he would take the head of someone else. The tale goes on to tell of a school teacher named Ichabod Crane. After a social gathering, Ichabod traveled back to Sleepy Hollow, when he had a terrifying encounter with the Headless Horseman. The Horseman threw his pumpkin head at Ichabod. What happened to Ichabod is unknown to this day. Though with such a powerful haunting tale attached to it, it’s no surprise why so many kids show up as the Headless Horseman at Halloween costume parties every year.
One of the great things about this Headless Horseman costume comes with everything you need to don the guise of Sleepy Hollow’s most famous phantom. There is a fetching vest attached to the jacket with a see through gray collar and a front facing cross belt. There’s also an inflatable shoulder unit and a neck cap piece create a headless look. It also comes with a comfortable pair of pants and boot tops that let you cover your real shoes to complete the effect. It’s available in youth sizes small, medium, large and extra-large.
