Throughout the 17th, 18th and 19th century military officers often wore Epaulets on the shoulders of their uniforms to help them stand out from the rest of the rabble. As firearm range and accuracy started to improve, more and more enemy sharp shooters would look for epaulets and target the individual wearing them. This was an effective way to “Cut the head off the snake.” So, by the 20th Century flashy epaulets like these were done away with to help protect officers from high-powered rifle fire from snipers.
These Officer Oblivious Epaulet Shoulder Tassels are perfect for taking an ordinary military jacket and turning it into an officers ensemble. They are easy to attach to add that extra level of detail to your costume party or historic reenactment.
