Edgar Allen Poe was known for his bouts of depression, substance abuse and dark poetry. Though perhaps his greatest work was his poem The Raven. It starts out ominously saying “Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.” This imagery evokes man’s fearsome connection with the dark birds of the north, which is part of the reason why you see ravens showing up in haunted houses and decorating people’s porches on Halloween night.
Ravens are often known to be the harbingers of sorrow and doom. This might be due in part to their mysterious appearance, as well as the fact that our ancient ancestors realized that ravens often flew along to scavenge with savage wolf packs that had no fear of man. This particular raven prop looks very much like the real bird, and is easy to put in place, and stay in place. All at a price that won’t peck a hole in your budget.
